Galway city to lnishmore of the Arans

After three days in Galway during the races we were spoiled for choice with the entertainment and eating houses our altonator was eventually replaced for €420 not all people were helpful, but dispite this unexpected bill we were overall made feel very welcome by the harbour master who wavered any fee for stoney b.

On Wednesday morning 30 July 2014  we stocked up on some goods filled our water tanks and diesel and Tobin and I with new crew Jim Hughes and Ken Curry cast off at 12.30 pm bound for the Aran Islands Inishmore a 6 hour sail west out of Galway bay we were close hauled on a starboard tack on a NNW breeze at 3/4 knots.
Thanks Sean Barry for all your help, you went out of your way for us, keep your head up lad, your a dying breed.
A culture shock awaited us in Inishmore it was so commercialised there were so many passenger ferries transporting tourists to and from the Island a right little Darby O'Gill trap the horses and carts were qued up in regimental fashion I counted nine and the taxis and minibuses also we were quoted €35 for a horse drawn trap and that it was, no disrespect to the people trying to survive from this they depend entirely on the tourist trade, its just that I never witnessed such a concentration of this kind in Ireland.
But what a beautiful Island with constant reminders of tradition culture and heartache.
Inishbofin tomorrow off the  Galway coast, then we'll sort the sheep out from the lambs on the approach to the most treacherous leg of our trip.
