Inishbofin to Blacksod bay Mayo

We set sail again leaving behind us Inishbofin and its lovely people. We were expecting to arrive in blacksod bay at the point on the north west pier by nightfall but had hoped to get in by 9.30pm  as usual our fondness for sailing without the noise of the motor added a couple of hours to our passage.

Sailing past Inishturk northward past Clare Island Clew bay and the notorious Bills rock Achill head and a sharp east into Blacksod bay it was just getting dark a beautiful sunset this was a lesson to be learnt that the charts are not always accurate unexpectedly we were quickly running out of depth in the centre of the bay a slow docking approach   here after several attempts soon found deeper water we tied up to a fishing boat and climbed over two more to get ashore what a relief for wee Tobin.
After a short walk around we went back to the boat cheese and toast for supper and settled in for the night we were all tired.
We awoke the next morning to the sound of the fishing fleet preparing to leave these were local lobster fishermen we didnt get a chance to talk to them only three rod fishermen off the pier from Poland from what we could gather they were telling us in their broken English that the pier was too shallow for us but we were still upright and made a hasty departure having breakfast en route, it was 8.00am  Saturday 2nd August 2014 my dream of sailing around Ireland was finally looking possible I couldn't believe we have made it this far.
