Local man saved from river
I witnessed a dramatic rescue tonight on the Foyle. A man had jumped in and, out of nowhere, another guy, who happened to have a lifejacket in his bag, made a fast sprint to his rescue.
He put on his lifejacket and tied the lifebuoy rope to his harness and lowered himself down into the water. He pulled the poor man up and pushed him up into the hands of two policemen who suddenly stopped their patrol car on the dual carriage way after seeing the crowd gathered. This all happened so fast. Well done Danny Payne, ex Foyle Search and Rescue. His lightning response most probably saved this man's life.
