Returning to Drogheda to take "Stoney B" to Howth

Leaving Drogheda
We returned to Drogheda today, Saturday 5th July and pumped up the new bigger dinghy and lowered it down the 20ft vertical ladder. Brendan went down first and I passed the gear down, then I took Tobin and lowered him down and boarded myself.

We rowed across to the Stoney B and were under way by 12.30pm. We turned south out of the Boyne and steered a course between the Skerries and Rockabilly rock and gave Lambay Island bird sanctuary a wide berth. As we approached Ireland's Eye, just northeast of Howth, the weather turned nasty with torrential showers and gusts before clearing as we made our way into Howth marina.

What a sight! sailing yachts galore! We berthed up on the outside pontoon  at about 7.45pm and made ready for our train trip back to Drogheda to pick the car up. It was Tobin's first time on the train and quite funny watching him go up the escalator.

Yes, finally, a sense of triumph. We completed our first leg to Howth. A quarter of the trip is now behind us, there's no turning back now. I have no alternative now with my health than to rest in between legs to recuperate. This is going to add time and expense to the original plan unfortunately. Thanks so much to Danny, Des, Ian, and Brendan for being part of the crew, and for Mark who has been keeping you all up to date posting to Facebook and Google+ while we are onboard.
